Hydroponic Systems

There are several types of hydroponic systems that you can purchase from local stores, online, or make yourself. The most simple of these being the hand watered bucket.

Hand Watered Bucket This is used for bigger plants and is a simple design. Here is what you will need to make this hydroponic system.

1. 5 gallon bucket - You will place your growing medium here. You can use washed gravel or rocks, rock wool, perlite, clay balls, or a variety of other things.

2. Hydroponic fertilizer of good quality. Purchased locally or online.

3. PH test kit - This will be used to make sure you keep a good balance of nutrients.

First you will drill drain holes in your bucket to allow the water and nutrients to run out. Place your growing medium into the bucket. Place your plants root system into the growing medium. If you are using seeds you should start them in another container before transplanting them. Mix your nutrients as directed on the instructions and check the PH. Slowly pour the solution into the bucket. As the solution drains out of the holes catch it in another container as it can be reused a few times. This will be done several times a day. Once you change out the solution you can take the old solution to fertilize other plants you have around the house.



This is a simple setup for a hydroponic gardening system and an easy way to learn about hydroponic gardening and seeing it's benefits.
